Ticks, floaties, and golden investigators
Last Monday we went on a hike up one of the hills that
surrounds Lock
Haven. It was really cool to look over the valley and see
the little
community. It was really pretty. On the way down I noticed a
little
black bug on my arm and when I went to scratch it off it
stuck a
little. That made me a little nervous and I joked with
Sister Thompson
that I had ticks. Well, as we were grocery shopping in
Walmart I
scratched my neck and another black bug fell off of me.
TICKS WERE ON
ME!! We did a quick little self check in the store and
thankfully
didn't find anymore, but boy was I paranoid! We went over to
see
R and A that night and I casually asked why ticks
are bad to
A. She explained how they carry lime disease and that
you can die
from them. Holy crap, my heart started racing. She then went
on to
explain how you need to full body scan yourself to make sure
you don't
have any, especially in your armpits and butt crack. R then made
a smart comment saying "so they need to check each
other's butts?!" We
all started cracking up laughing which made A more
agitated since
we were not taking this seriously. Thankfully I didn't have
anymore
ticks on me and I am clear, and I was able to come to that
conclusion
without my companion giving my booty a look at haha.
We did a ton of service for Sister N this week. She is
getting new
electrical wiring in her house and had to clear out her
attic. We
spent four hours one day, and another two hours the
following day
moving boxes and totes from the attic to her garage. I was
so sore and
tired! I haven't felt that sore for a while, but I really
liked
getting a good workout in during those two days. Needless to
say, I
slept like a baby this past week.
We had zone training this past week, and President and
Sister Johnson
came to it this time. At the end of the meeting they dropped
some
super legit news that we had to keep quiet for 24 hours so
he could
announce it to other missionaries; it was so hard because it
is so
exciting!!! So here it is: I get to go to the temple! There
is a rule
where unless you are two hours from a temple, you cannot go
to a
temple. Sadly, I've never been close enough to go, and I am
still
three plus hours away. Since the Philadelphia temple is
going to open
in September, the stake I am in will now be assigned to that
temple.
There will be open houses before the dedication for people
to tour it,
and missionaries can't even go to that. BUT on July 24,
before tours
start, their is a special VIP day for all missionaries who
are in the
temple boundaries and their investigators! Basically, we are
allotted
one day where we take an investigator and show them the
temple. I am
so excited and super pumped. Now we just have to find a
female
investigator who wants to go to the temple, and is willing
to drive
down and back in one day. We will make it work, I am not
going to miss
out on this!
Friday night the M twins were baptized. Everyone there
was a
little nervous that there would be a canon ball into the
font or some
crazy thing happen, but nothing of the sort happened. The
craziest
thing was when Nathaniel got into the water he started
laughing and
then got out, only to slowly get back in. After the baptism
Sister
Thompson asked him if he was nervous or if the water was
just cold. He
responded by saying " I was a littler nervous, I didn't
have my
floaties on!" We were cracking up when he said that. I
guess it would
be scary to get in a tub of water if you didn't know how to
swim.
We had a miracle happen at the baptism. Sister M came
up to me
afterwards with her mom and said that she wants to be
baptized. J
said that she took the lessons with her daughter when they
lived in
Texas but she didn't really take it seriously, but that she
has been
thinking about life a lot lately, and tonight she realized
she needs
to be baptized. We were so happy to hear that! We the met
with her the
following night and brought Sister N along. The lesson
went great
and we were able to help explain prophets to her. She came
to church
on Sunday and we are meeting with her again next week. She
is golden
and really wants to know more. I don't know how we hit the
gold mine
with the M family! I sure have been lucky to help see
a family
get active again in the church, and help part of the family
get
prepared for baptism.
