Another week has come and gone
This week has been a good one! Since Saturday
the weather has been AMAZING! We have had clear skies, and it got up to 60
degrees which is unheard of here in the winter time. I know I sound like a
broken record when I say this, but I have been so blessed with a mild winter! I
didn't have to wear a coat and tons of people were outside, it's been great!
This past week we had a memorial for Sister
Wells. We had some missionaries give tributes to her, and then President and
Sister Johnson spoke, along with our AP, Elder Miller, and Elder Gardner who
works in the office. It was all based around the Plan of Salvation. At her
funeral in Utah the day prior, Elder Bednar spoke and said something along the
lines of "I don't know why things like this happen, but I know that God
knows why, and that is enough for me." With that, we all just need to have
faith that everything is part of God's plan and that it'll all work out in the
end. It was a great memorial, and it really helped all of us cope with the
accident and move on. So, back to work we go! Two of the other sisters are
doing great and are improving so much. Sister Young continues to be in the ICU
and is fighting broken bones, infections, and internal damage. She still needs
lots of prayers because she is in a bad condition. Hopefully she will be able
to pull through and won't have any lasting effects from the accident. I cannot
imagine the pain she is going through right now.
At the beginning of my mission we had a
mission-wide initiative titled #JustReadIt (The AP during that time loved
hashtags haha). Anyways, there were three things we had to try and do each day:
1. Hand out a Book of Mormon, 2. Read a chapter of the Book of Mormon, and 3.
Have someone we are working with also read a chapter from the Book of Mormon.
It's pretty straight forward, but can sometimes be a challenge. I remember
texting / calling people at 10:15 pm in a panic to see if they had read so we
could get our day counted for. Our zone leaders decided that for this transfer
they are bringing back the challenge. Since they started it a little into the
transfer they made it a goal for each area to get 30/37 days a #JustReadIt day.
Sister Kwasney and I have really taken this challenge to heart. So far we are 3
for 3! We have also seen lots of blessings from doing it in only half a week.
We have struggled for the past few weeks at getting new investigators so that
we have someone to teach. Well this week we got four! Three of which were from
the challenge. It was been such a blessing and I cannot wait to see the success
that continues to come through this initiative.
I have learned the power of saying sorry and
having humility over the past few weeks. Yes, that's right everyone, you can
now flop over and die because I'm pretty sure none of you ever thought that day
would come. Also, no need to worry, Sister Kwasney and I get a long totally
fine and there is no tension or riff between us. That in itself is a miracle to
get along so well with a companion. Anyways, about the whole humility thing. I've
just learned that in the long run it's not worth it to hold grudges or get mad
about stupid things. If you say sorry and have open communication, then it
works five hundred times better! It's weird saying sorry so much, this will
definitely take some getting used to, but it's a nice change. I can feel myself
much happier and patient towards others as well as myself.
What's a weekly email from me without a story
about an animal, right? So this past week we were at Sister Thompson's house
and I was sitting on a chair opposite of the room from the couch where she and
Sister Kwasney were sitting. I noticed Sister Kwasney looking strangely at my
feet, and when I looked down I say Sister Thompson's cat. Naturally you would
think that I would flinch or do something along those lines, but not this time.
Instead I just sat there frozen and let out a really loud yelp that freaked out
that cat and everyone in the room. I don't know why it scared me so much, but
we all got a good laugh about it afterwards.
That's about it in the life of me. We are
expected to get one more snowstorm and then hopefully it will transition to
spring. I am so excited!
Sister Morrison
Just a funny picture
we took in a bathroom one day. We sure get laughs at doing stupid things
together!
I burned a shirt for
my 6 month mark!
We traded name tags
and practiced giving a Book of Mormon with one of the cutest kids in our ward
while we were there for dinner. I seriously want to fit her in my pocket and
take her everywhere I go!
