Good Morning!
Hi all,
Not much has changed this past week in comparison to last.
We are
still trying to pick up some new investigators and talk with
as many
people as possible. We have found some awesome people this
past week,
but sadly they all live in area outside of where we teach,
so some
other missionaries got some wonderful news when it comes to
referrals!
It's always a wonderful treat like Christmas when you get
news of a
referral, so it's nice to help make other missionary's day.
Plus, in
the three areas where we sent new investigators those
missionaries
have been having a rough time teaching people so it gave
them a little
boost.
We had exchanges this past week. Once again I stayed in my
area. I'm
starting to think that I will never leave on an exchange. Oh
well. It
went really well and we were able to teach lots of lessons
and do some
service. It's always interesting to hear other missionary's
stories
because most of them have serve out east which is completely
different
from the areas I have served in. Maybe on day I will go to
farmland,
but for now I am happy to be in the ghetto city.
This past week I got the wonderful opportunity of witnessing
a man
snort cocaine on the bus. It gave me the worst feeling in
the world,
and strengthened my testimony on how much I hate drugs. They
ruin your
life, and do no good. I am grateful that I do not have to
deal with
overcoming addictions because from the looks of it, it seems
extremely
hard. But, from going to the Addiction Recovery Program each
week that
the church offers, I have come to know that through Christ
anything is
possible, even when you feel low and like it can't be done.
The R family is going through a little bit of a rough
patch and it
kills me! I just want to take away all their struggles and
make life
nice and easy for them. Sadly, I can't do that. We've
talked a lot
with them about having faith in Jesus Christ when times get
rough.
It's always good to know that someone has your back and is
willing to
help when we ask through prayer and are obedient to the
commandments.
Hopefully they will get out of this funk, the ward is a
great support
system which is a huge relief as well.
On Wednesday we had a worldwide missionary broadcast where
we were
trained by some of the General Authorities on how to become
more
effective missionaries. Apparently this has not happened in
over a
decade, but because they finally got a good handle on the
increased
number of missionaries who come out, they were able to train
us again.
It was really good, and I learned so much. One thing it
talked about
was asking for referrals from everyone. Since then we have
tried to
ask everyone we talk to about who would be interested, and
we have
found some good success. Hopefully we can continue to get
some
investigators that way! They also said that we should focus
on the
powerful message of the First Vision with less actives. It
will help
rekindle that testimony that they once had. Right after the
broadcast
we went to meet with L who has started coming back to
church. We
scrapped our original lesson and went with the First Vision.
We talked
about how even Joseph Smith faces opposition when he was
trying to do
the right thing, and that through prayer he was able to
overcome them.
You could really feel the spirit, and my testimony of
following the
prophets was definitely strengthened within a matter of
hours of
hearing their counsel.
Sadly, no super funny moments happened this week. Hopefully
next week
a good story will happen so I can get you all in a roaring
fit. The
cold is cold, and I'm ready for summer. Thankfully the
weather has
been "mild" and that January is almost over. Only
two more months of
cold and then I will have survived my first winter here!
